Sunshine Coast – weekly fishing report

Welcome to this week’s Sunshine Coast Fishing Report. Apologies for the lack of a report last week – we were moving our store from Bli Bli to our new location in Maroochydore. More rain has once again resulted in frustration for estuary fishos, with rivers still murky due to the freshwater. Some good catches have still been reported however, so it’s worth wetting a line. The past week offshore has been awesome, however that doesn’t look likey to continue with poor conditions predicted for next week.

Offshore

We’ve had reports from Smithy’s Fishing Charters and Deep End Fishing Charters of some awesome fishing over the past week, including catches of pearl perch and tuskfish at the Hards, hussar on the Barwon Banks and mahi mahi on the FADs. We’ve also had reports of cobia and marlin. Unfortunately next week isn’t looking great for offshore fishing, with some hope of an improvement late next week.

Maroochy River

The Maroochy River has once again been tricky, with more rainfall resulting in dirty water. There has been some good fishing however, including reports of tuna, which have been causing a frenzy out front. Some good catches of whiting continue in the lower reaches, while the Bli Bli stretch has once again produced plenty of bream and flathead. There’s still lots of mud crabs about too, so it’s worth setting the pots this weekend.

Lee caught this nice mangrove jack this week. Well done Lee!

Noosa River

The Noosa River has fished well over the past week, with reports of whiting and bream along the Noosaville stretch. Good catches of dart, whiting and bream were also reported at the mouth and the Frying Pan, while flathead continue to be caught in Woods Bay. Like the Maroochy, there’s also been plenty of crabs about.

With plenty of crabs around at the moment, make sure to measure your catch with a Crabba Measuring Tool!

Caloundra

Fishing at Caloundra has been pretty good over the past week. Like the Maroochy and Noosa rivers, Caloundra’s creeks and rivers have been brackish with freshwater, however catches of flathead and whiting continue to be reported in the lower reaches. Jacks continue to make their presence known, along with mud crabs. So again, it’s worth setting the pots if you’re down Caloundra way.

After a huge week of moving and setting up, we’re excited to welcome you at our new Maroochydore store at 3/99 Aerodrome Road, opposite Aldi. We are open this weekend from 9am to 2pm on Saturday and Sunday. Stay tuned to our socials for the latest updates, especially regarding live beach worms availability this weekend. Looking forward to seeing you all again!

Tight lines,

Trent & Corinne
