We’ve had a windy old week on the Gold Coast with the N/NW then SW winds persisting to blow from Tuesday onwards. Luckily our Houseboat customers have plenty of good spots to hide away and try their luck at catching a feed, with the weekend looking good.
School Holiday’s kick off on Friday and the weekend is looking pretty good at this stage to get out and have some fun on the water.
We have plenty of family’s heading out on the Houseboats during school holidays and our rent a Tinnies are available to take the kids out onto the Coomera River for a fish. It’s good to see the local residents dropping in to stock up on tackle, bait and asking advice on how to get the kids involved in fishing. We have seen some nice Bream, Whiting and Flathead landed lately they are a great target species for the young ones. With so much technology at your kid’s fingertips nowadays it’s just nice to get back to basics and enjoy some quality time fishing either land based, off a beach or jetty or out in the boat. Boating on the Gold Coast we are blessed with plenty of options from rivers & creeks to the Broadwater & Pin. Land based fishing is also very popular especially with younger ones as you can access beaches and facilities. A light estuary outfit with a running sinker rig is fine, Prawns, Worms & Yabbies are great bait. The kids love pumping Yabbies and you will find a large number of fish species to catch. Some good spots to try are Coomera River, Paradise Point, Runaway Bay, Labrador, Biggera Waters, Southport, Marine Stadium, Nerang River and Jacobs Well. Good luck kids make sure you send in your Fishing Photos and we will share them for you J
Customers have just started to target Mud Crabs during the last week and managed a good feed. A lack of rain has affected the crabbing but a bit of persistence has paid off. Our Houseboat crew scored a feed in Tiger Mullet Channel, Canaipa Passage, Jacobs Well, The Never Fails and Coomera River this week.
The countdown is on for anglers fishing this year’s Gold Coast Flathead Classic from 26th to 29th of September. Crews have been doing plenty of pre fishing and nailing consistent catches in the Broadwater and Jumpinpin area. Snot weed is still a big issue in some areas this week and will make trolling lures and casting plastics and vibes tedious. Fishing in areas closer to the ocean entrances will produce some larger fish from the deeper waters and hopefully plenty of males hanging around. Kalinga Bank, Crusoe Island, Mc Kenzies Channel, Tiger Mullet Channel, Whallys Gutter and Eden Island should all produce Flathead. In the Broadwater the Never Fails Island, Tipplers Passage, Aldershots, Brown Island, Crab Island and the Seaway Rock Walls are all good spots to search.
Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any reports please let us know how you went.
