Gold Coast fish firing despite rain

Even with a bit of rain around it’s been a good week to get out and about on the Gold Coast and chase a few fish, let’s see what was biting.

The Gold Coast Seaway has been a great spot for a variety of fish firing this week, and our customers have reported good catches of Bream, Squire, Tailor, Trevally, Jew Fish and even a few rat Yellow Tail Kingfish have showed up on the pipeline.  Good bait schools have been moving through the Seaway and into the channel of the Broadwater, just look for the birds feeding and you will find the bait and fish.

Jumpinpin Bar has also been fishing well for Tailor, Jewfish and some nice Squire on the incoming tide.  Find the birds and again you will find the fish, live baits for the Jewfish will work a treat. Trolling Lures or casting metals slugs for Tailor and the Squire are taking a variety of live and dead baits.

Our Customers have caught a few nice Bream this week and some bonus Squire as bycatch, as we get closer to winter the fishing will just get better and better.  Some good spots are Tiger Mullet Channel, Short Island, Mc Kenzie’s Channel, Jacobs Well, Dux, Tipplers Passage, Coomera River and Wave Break Island.  Best baits are Mullet Fillet, Fishos (Chicken Gut), Mullet Gut, White Pilchards, WA Pilchards Cubes and Yabbies.  A consistent burly trail is the key to keeping the Bream feeding and hanging around.  Don’t forget your crab pots if you are going for a fish, they are still around in big numbers giving our houseboats customers a good feed.

A few nice Flathead and Whiting have been caught around Crab Island, Wave Break Island, Jacobs Well Shoals, Bedrooms, Tipplers Passage and the Coomera River.  Yabbies are a good all round bait for both species, Worms are good for the Whiting and White Pilchards, WA Pilchards or lures will temp the Flathead.

At the time of writing my report it looks like we will see winds of 15 – 20 knots coming from the South East on Saturday and easing as we come into Sunday.  Sunday the South Easterly will drop right off and make it a great day to be out on the water as long as the rain stays away. The winds are predicted to pick up again into Sunday evening and turning more South South-westerly into the week.

Good luck with the Fishing.  Brett
