The Westerly winds sure showed up with a blast during the week on the Gold Coast cooling things down, an upside is beach fishing is a great option chasing Tailor on the surf beaches. Let’s see how the fishing was this week for our Houseboat customers.
Our Houseboat customers managed to find a few good spots out of the westerly wind during the week, Jumpinpin has some great protected anchorages to choose from. Reports of Tailor being caught along the South Stradbroke Island gutters and from Main Beach north to the sand pumping jetty is great news for beach fishermen keen to brave the cooler conditions and catch a feed. Tailor is great to eat fresh just remember to bleed your fish as soon as possible for best eating quality. Best rig is a set of 3 gang hooks either 3/0 or 4/0 depending on the size of the whole WA pilchard you are using, I recommend to try a mono trace first if the fish are a bit shy you will get more bites than wire traces, if you are getting bitten off regularly then swap to wire if the fish are thick. Depending of the sweep in the gutter anything from a 4 ball to 6 ball sinkers should be fine. Casting metal slugs is another great option and is a very exciting way to fish both during the day and night.
Tailor have also been showing around the Pin Bar and Gold Coast Seaway entrances on the last couple of hours of the run in tide. Try trolling hard body lures to cover as much area as possible until you find the fish feeding.
Bream are biting well with the cooler conditions combined with the lead up to the new moon over the weekend. Good numbers of fish are being caught in the Nerang River, Channel between Marina Mirage and Wave Break Island, Runaway Bay, Dux, Whalleys Gutter, Tiger Mullet Channel, Eden Island, Short Island, Powerlines and Logan River. Frozen and fresh baits are all working well, just keep a good burley trail on the go to keep the fish chewing.
Houseboat Customers have managed a few nice Flathead this week with good numbers of fish around the 40 to 50cm range taking baits and lures. The fish are well spread out at the moment throughout the Broadwater and Jumpinpin area, the odd big girls has been caught but numbers of big fish will improve as winter progresses.
Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any reports please let us know how you went.

At the time of writing my report the forecast is looking good for the weekend with light to moderate S/SW winds on Friday and Saturday. Winds will tend light Westerly on Sunday making it the pick of the weekend to get out. Looks like the swell is on the rise for fishing offshore this weekend. At this stage Sunday looks like the best day to get out on the water and try your luck. Just make sure you have the most up to date forecast before heading out on the water.
If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au Good luck with the Fishing. Brett
