Fines for fishing in Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve

Two men were issued fines totalling $1600 after allegedly fishing in Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve in May this year.

Several reports made to the NSW DPI Fishers Watch Phoneline on 20th May this year led to fisheries officers intercepting two men near North Head, Manly NSW.

Investigations resulted in the officers issuing penalty notices to the men both from Sydney, for allegedly fishing the reserve earlier that day and failing to pay the recreational fishing fee. One of the men was also issued a penalty notice for allegedly failing to provide information after providing false details of his identify. The men have since paid all the fines.

It is prohibited to fish by any means within the reserve that is located on Sydney’s Northern Beaches in Manly, NSW. The reserve is popular for recreational activities including swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving and underwater photography. The area is home to a diverse range of habitats and marine life and more than 160 species of fish and 50 species of marine invertebrates have been recorded in the reserve.
