mixed bag biting gold coast

Mixed bag of weather and fish on Gold Coast

We’ve had a bit of a mixed bag of weather on the Gold Coast this week, seeing hot NW over the weekend before the return of the SE winds and a few showers mid-week. Let’s have a look at what’s been biting.

The water temp has started to cool down a bit as we head toward the end of April,  the Pin Bar area and Gold Coast Seaway has fished well for quality Jew Fish with some nice fish being caught. Live bait is a great way to target Jew. A mixed bag of baits such as pike, mullet, herring and tailor should temp a bite. Big soft Plastics and Vibes worked around a tide change is also a very popular method. Keeping an eye on the sounder for bait schools and big predators is a must to locate fish.

Regular customers had a good week catching some big Whiting around the Jacobs Well area, the Shoals and near Dinner Island produced a feed. Other spots to have a look at are the Bedrooms, Green and Gold Bank, the Sandbanks near the mouth of Cobby Passage, Pimpama and Coomera River. Yabbies and Worms fished on a long 6lb trace will do the trick. If the bite slows down just move around a bit and try to relocate the school of feeding fish.

Plenty of nice Sand Crabs have been caught throughout the Broadwater and Jumpinpin area this week, water clarity is still pretty good at the moment. Try setting your pots on the edges of the main channels and sand banks just on the drop off for a feed. Mud Crabs are still on offer, I’d recommend to try and set the pots up in the feeder creeks at high tide.

A few Flathead have been caught around The Bedrooms, Tipplers Passage,  Wave Break Island,  Jacobs Well, Tiger Mullet Channel, Logan River and the Coomera River.  They are a great fish for the kids to target, you can drift either live or dead bait. When at anchor the little ones like to wind in and cast out a lot which defiantly attracts the Flathead to strike.  You can also troll hard body lures, work blades, Zerek fish trap vibes or flick soft plastics like the Zman Range 3 and 4 inch minnow or curl tale.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any reports please let us know how you went.

Seabreeze is a great website to access a local forecast http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/

At the time of writing my report the forecast looks like we will see Moderate S/SE winds and a few showers on Saturday and Sunday. We have plenty of options to find a spot out of the wind and catch a feed over the weekend on the Gold Coast.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au    Good luck with the Fishing.  Brett
