Hi Everyone, what a fantastic run of weather we’ve been having on the Gold Coast this week with light winds, small swell and plenty of awesome fish being landed. Let’s have a look at this week’s action.

It was great to see the swell drop off over the weekend matched with light winds gave everyone the green light to head offshore and get stuck into some reef fishing action. Jason from Coomera Bait & Tackle did well on Saturday putting together a nice feed of Tusk Fish, Snapper and Trag. His son Jacob landed his first Spangled Emperor going 60cm on the 18 fathom line. Rory Nicholson from Coomera Waters Fishing Club also had an awesome trip off the Gold Coast landing a nice Long Tail Tune, Big Jew Fish, Snapper and a Trag (see photo in report) well done. Reports across the weekend were all similar results with crews managing some great catches of nice Jew Fish all over a metre, quality Snapper in the mid 80cm and a good mixed bag of Tusk Fish, Moses, Trag and Pearlies from the 18, 24 and 36 Fathom line. I might sound like a broken record sometimes but the system just seems to work, spend some time sounding around until you find a show of bait and fish on the sounder, anchor up and get a good burley trail going. Float lining is the best method to present your baits more naturally, just use the lightest sinker possible given the conditions. WA pilchards seem to be the favourite even for the Jew Fish lately, also whole large Squid, Mullet Fillet, Bonito Fillet will work. If the live baits are a bit quiet try butterflying them and see how you go.

Regular contributor Will Henderson has been having some good luck fishing the Tweed River catching and releasing a monster 92cm Flathead working his go to lure the Zerek Fish Trap around bait schools in the deeper sections of the River.  Brad Smith Fishing Charters have also been doing well on the Tweed landing some nice Jew Fish and Flathead for their customers working metal blade vibe lures.

Our Coomera Houseboat Holiday crews have had perfect weather for fishing the Gold Coast this week. The have been doing well trolling hard body lures on the edges of weed beds around the Never Fail Islands, Jacobs Well, Cabbage Tree Point, Tipplers Passage, Tipplers Island and the Bedrooms temping plenty of quality Flathead. Trolling lures is a great way to cover ground and find fish this time of year. Once you locate fish there will usually be quite a few in the general area. Try switching to soft plastics or vibes and pepper the area to find the big Flathead that is attracting the school sized fish.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any great catches or photos you would like to share, please email us and let us know how you went.

Sunday will see lighter Southerly winds making it the pick of the days to go fishing. Just make sure you have the latest weather report before you head out on the water.
