Hi there anglers,

Unfortunately due to the weather there won’t be a lot of fishing happening this weekend on the Sunshine Coast. Judging by the fairly consistent weather predictions it does look like the wind and swell are dropping as of Friday to leave us with a good Sat and Sunday being the better with a slight chance of rain. The swell is still looking to be on a sliding scale from 3m on Friday and Sat morning to 1.4m on Tuesday.

Over the last week though has been a tale of great fishing with King Fish caught at Currimundi Reef to Snapper caught just off Pt Cartwright rocks and Mackerel out off the Mooloolah River mouth. It didn’t matter where or when anglers fished the just seemed to get a great variety of good catches.

The best place for the boaties was at Murphey’s and the Gneerings with Coral Trout, Snapper, Pearl Perch, Small Reds, Tuna, Mackerel and Grassies of good solid size. Floating Pilly’s worked really well and if you were fishing with weight to get down to the bottom, the lightest possible lead was what was needed as the hook up ratio was fantastic. Jumbo Pilly’s did the damage with most of the quality fish landed were caught on those. Be it Tuna, Mackerel or reef species this was the better choice of bait.

The performance level around the Mooloolah River and beaches were great as well. The Jew fish were in good numbers around the new moon but the biggest ones still eluded the best of anglers. There was plenty of Dart around the beach on Pipi’s and Beach worms. The river mouth has had some great action with Mackerel, Squire and big Bream. All caught using floating pillies and soft plastics. The Basin has still been holding enough flatties and whiting while the boat ramp has seen an increase in bream. The canals are holding the better muddies with trevalley and bream beating up the bait in the shallows.
