Yikes, November is all but done and dusted and Christmas is only 4 weeks away! For some this time of the year means spending time with family and friends but for others it is all about the fishing. Water temps have reached the mid 20’s and the whiting and jacks have certainly come out to play with a regular stream of reports of good catches as well as a few tales of those that got away. These hot and muggy days are some of the best times to go out in search of these not only prized sport fish but equally as good on the plate.
Over the past week we have had reports of good whiting in Kauri Creek and around Poona and Tinnanbar along with a few flathead and bream. Jacks have been caught in reasonable numbers along with some monster cod as by catch with one local angler landing and est 20kg cod this week.
There has been plenty of crabs around lately with muddies in creeks such as Teebar, Carlo, Kauri and Snapper. If your after sand crabs try working the sand flats around Alligator creek, Pelican bay or Smooger Point.
Looking at the forecast for the weekend ahead Saturday is looking to be the pick of the days with light winds around 5-10 knots ENE swinging around to NNE around lunch time. With low tides just before first light it will be worth packing the 4×4 and heading to Double Island Point for the day. With whiting, flathead, bream and dart on the cards.
Don’t forget if your looking for some gift ideas for Christmas to stop past the store. We are bound to have something for everyone. Until next week, stay safe on the water.
Regards,
Jim Cole
