Hi Everyone, hope you’ve all had a nice week, winter has returned to the Gold Coast seeing those cooler SW winds bringing a chill back in the air. Nice clear blue skies have been great for everyone getting out and about enjoying a bit of fishing.

The weather was great last Saturday morning and I was lucky enough to get an invite out for a fish offshore with my mate Wayne and my daughter Bec tagged along. All the signs looked great with the sounder showing good bait schools and plenty of fish active on the reef but it turned out to be a tough bite in this location. We fished a few different areas off the Gold Coast Seaway from 32m to 48m mark and eventually came up trumps with a few nice pan sized Snapper for a feed. Moving around a bit if spots were slow combined with a good selection of bait including WA Pilchards, Whole Large Squid, Gar Fish, Mullet Fillet, Bonito Fillet, Tailor Fillet and Live Yakka’s combined with a regular burly trail were an important part of success. Normally the current is a bit slower this time of year but last Saturday we did have a fair bit of flow which did affect how the burly was working, we had to make sure to throw if well in front of the boat to make in more affective. We did get to see plenty of Whales moving through the area which is an awesome sight.

Earlier in the week some great Snapper, Spangled Emperor, Moses, Tusk, Trag and Pearl Perch were caught on the local reefs using a mixture of bait and soft plastics, it just goes to show that every day is different and you just have to make some adjustments to maximise your chances at landing fish.

Looking at the forecast for the weekend some much needed rain looks to be on the way, this is good news for the local rivers and estuary’s which are in need of a flush out to get the bait and fish on the move. Hopefully the fishing on the Gold Coast will benefit from the rain for months to come. A bit of rain certainly won’t dampen the spirits of most fisho’s who will go fishing no matter what.

Coomera Bait & Tackle customer Robbie Daly (see photo in report) has been doing well fishing the Gold Coast Seaway catching and releasing some big Flathead using live herring as bait. The Seaway will attract and hold large numbers of big female Flathead as we get closer to breeding season, in turn there will be plenty of male Flathead hanging around the area which are good size eating fish if you’re after a feed.

Brad Smith Fishing Charters customers have been having a great time landing some nice School Jew Fish and Flathead in the Nerang River and Runaway Bay area. They have also been finding some quality Bream, Flounder and Tailor.

Coomera Houseboat Holidays customers have been scoring a good mixed feed this week with a few Flathead, Bream, Whiting, Flounder and Tailor on offer around Jumpinpin and the Broadwater. Some good spots have been The Never Fail Islands, Jacobs Well Kangaroo Island area, Cabbage Tree Point, Tiger Mullet Eden Island end and also Green Bank, Canaipa Passage, Cobby Passage and Logan River. In the Broadwater try the Pimpama River, Coomera River North and South Arms, Aldershots, Brown Island and Crab Island, Wave Break Island and Marine Stadium.  Mud Crabs have also been on the menu mainly around Jumpinpin, and the Coomera River.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any great catches or photos you would like to share, please email us and let us know how you went.

At the time of writing my report the forecast looks like we will see rain over the weekend for the Gold Coast. Friday will see light NE winds, Saturday we see the NE winds increase from moderate to strong. Sunday will see winds ease and tend to a Northerly direction. Just make sure you have the latest weather report before you head out on the water.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au    Good luck with the Fishing.  Brett
