QBFP find abandoned fishing net in the Gladstone district

QBFP received a complaint by a member of the public regarding an abandoned fishing net in the Gladstone district.
A short time later, officers arrived on the scene to find a 50m monofilament fishing net drying on the bank. A variety of species were returned to the water, including barramundi and threadfin salmon and turtles, sharks, and rays.
Investigations are continuing as to ownership of the net with a view of possible prosecution.
Officers would like to thank the concerned member of the public for the initial information and remind everyone to report any illegal or suspicious fishing behaviour to the FishWatch Hotline (1800 017 116) or by downloading the Qld Fishing 2.0 app from the App Store or Google Play.
