Successful 30th Lions Greenback Competition 2016

THE 30th Lions Charity Greenback Fishing Competition was a complete success.

Over 1000 people witnessed the fish caught during the competition at the weigh-in on Sunday. Richo and his merry men sorted and judged all fish and then presented the fish ready for auction.

This year we had scientists from NSW Fisheries offering to remove the ear bones from tailor for research.

The major raffle prize worth $5000 went to Bruce Alvey of Alvey Reels, second prize of a $500 fuel voucher was won by Sean Priest and third consisting of a rod and reel combo went to Liz Clark. Bruce donated back all fishing rod prizes.

Seventy bags of fish were sold at the fish auction and the Caba Creative markets were well attended. Volunteer Rescue Association Tweed District sold 12 meat and seafood raffles as well as assisting with event sign-on.

Cabarita Beach Surf Life Saving Club provided all meals for competitors and public while kids were entertained by Hoopla Circus.

Cabarita Beach & Pottsville Beach Lions Club wishes to thank all its valued sponsors who contributed to the success of this, the 30th Lions Greenback Fishing Competition. Auctioneer Tom Ingliss from Magic Millions volunteered his time to sell the fish at our fish auction and MC Keith Nowlan provided his services on a voluntary basis and praised the work of Lions volunteers past and present.

We especially wish to thank Brunswick Mullumbimby Lions in providing assistance during the fish auction. We will confirm entrant numbers and provide a final distribution to our beneficiaries at a Lions dinner to be held in due course.
